How to Make Natural Dog Ice Cream

Have you discovered the magic of Frosty Paws Frozen Natural Dog Treat? It’s a nondairy frozen treat for dogs that’s similar to ice cream in texture except it’s lactose and dairy free, making it easier for dogs to digest. Plus, dogs absolutely love the taste! My three dogs celebrate with jumps and barks when they see the box of Frosty Paws come out of the freezer. Because we have three dogs and Frosty Paws is so popular, the cost of these treats can really add up! I decided to make my own version of this natural dog treat and test it on my pack to see if it would meet their “discriminating” taste.. Here’s the recipe I used:

Ingredient List:

1 well mashed banana
32 ounces of vanilla or plain yogurt
2 T. honey
2 T. peanut butter

All of the above ingredients should be blended thoroughly in a blender or food processor until creamy and smooth. Place the well mixed ingredients into dixie cups or other paper based cups. and freeze until solid.

As you can see the ingredients are all natural and are actually quite healthy for your dog. I think it may be the peanut butter that makes this treat such a hit with my crew. You could also make some substitutions with this basic recipe to change the flavoring such as using apple or pear instead of banana or using molasses in place of the honey. Experiment a bit and see what unique variations you can come up with! Be sure to avoid chocolate as certain forms of chocolate can be toxic to dogs.

After making the complete recipe, I microwaved the dixie cups for 3 seconds to soften them a bit and then offered them to my crew. Did I get the same response? You betcha! The enthusiasm level was high and the “ice cream” was gone in minutes. Plus, it certainly cost less to make than to buy in the store.

Of course if you don’t have time to make these all natural dog treats, you can find Frosty Paws in the frozen food section of many grocery stores. I also have heard there’s a competing brand of frozen dog treat on the market called Dogsters that has a peanut butter taste.

Isn’t it amazing that your dogs can now share in your love of ice cream with their own version of an all natural frozen dog treat? Try making some in your own kitchen. Your dog will thank you.
